About Our Region: Burlington is Vermont’s largest city and its business center. Our area is frequently recognized as one of the most livable, healthy, and vibrant places in the country, and is home to the University of Vermont and several other institutions of higher learning.  Local Motion’s programs reach throughout Chittenden County (pop. 158,000) and connect Vermont across Lake Champlain to New York and Quebec.

Position Classification:

  • Reports to:  Local Motion Board of Directors
  • Directly Supervises:  Director of Operations, Director of Advocacy & Education, Bike Ferry Manager
  • Classification/Hours:  Permanent, Full time
  • Salary:  Based on experience and qualifications
  • Benefits:  Medical, vacation, retirement, flex / comp time, and other benefits
  • Timeline:  Review of applications begins by 10/15/2013 with decision expected in December

Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Maintain collaborative relationships with external stakeholders including the business community, local and state government, foundations and other non-profit / community groups in the state
  • Foster a supportive, creative and exciting internal work environment that gives staff members opportunities to grow in their jobs
  • Serve as a leading, articulate spokesperson for the bike/pedestrian/trails/active lifestyle community
  • Craft Local Motion’s public-facing messaging, including web content, blogs, and grant applications
  • Engage and involve culturally diverse communities in Local Motion activities and leadership
  • Identify, propose and implement strategic opportunities for the organization

Management

  • Manage, directly and through staff, all Local Motion programs to enhance their effectiveness, financial position, and visibility
  • Supervise all staff
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors on Finance, Strategy, Leadership, and Development
  • Lead the implementation of Board-approved strategic plan in a way that keeps the organization focused on goals that are realistic and achievable

Finance

  • Manage the organization’s finances to strengthen and sustain the organization’s financial position
  • Expand the organization’s revenue sources to increase reliability and diversity
  • Lead Local Motion’s fundraising initiatives and campaigns

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ten years experience in the public, non-profit or relevant private sector, including 3+ years at the senior management level
  • Social entrepreneur with the passion and skills to advance social change
  • Commitment to the cause of people-powered transportation
  • Advocate with demonstrated ability to organize, form and advance policy initiatives
  • Strong budget development and financial management skills
  • Proven experience and success in fundraising
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, donors and partners
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, and demonstrated success in social media campaigns
  • Has shown ability to engage a wide variety of individuals and organizations at the local, state and national levels
  • Proven ability to manage multiple significant priorities
